Water-Cooled vs Non-Water-Cooled Magnetic Yoke

The phrase “non-water-cooled yoke” usually means a stack whose only cooling is the air around it, or a yoke whose water hardware has been removed after a leak. On furnaces from 12 tons upward, the builds on this site put water on the steel.

A channel or tank is welded to stainless plate. It is simple and covers 40, 60 and 70 ton yokes, including dual circuits. A reinforced 12 ton channel is cut for higher flow and less scale than the earlier tank.

Copper tubes sit closer to the laminations. The 30 ton yoke uses both 4-in/4-out and 3-in/3-out tubes. Stainless tubes are the answer when a welded pocket has cracked or the plate has pitted from electrolytic corrosion.

Whatever the hardware, the circuit is pressure-tested and flow-tested before shipment. A yoke that cannot pass water is not a finished yoke.
